Interactive Pepeha

2019 WWDC submission
My WWDC 2019 Swift playgrounds submission demonstrates an interactive storybook – my Pepeha. Pepeha is a way of introducing yourself in Māori – the indigenous people of my homeland New Zealand. It tells people who you are by sharing your connections with the people and places that are important to you. I thought it would be nice to share some of New Zealand with Apple, so I wanted to illustrate our native flora and fauna such as the Fern, Kowhai, Pohutukawa, Harakeke (flax) and the Cabbage tree, along with birdsong from our native birds, like Tui, Kereru, and Fantail. 🌱

Augmented Reality

I used Augmented Reality to prototype form quicker than building real life models, for instance times that I couldn't be in the workshop. I used Fusion 360 to model my designs, and Substance Painter to texture them. Finally, I exported them as a .USDZ file and can share to people to be visualised in their own spaces, in life size. AR mode only works on iPhones and iPad.
