Final posters & rationale

Week 6

I wanted to highlight just how unequal the workplace for women is, by using the quote that “there’s more CEOs named John that all female CEOs” which shows the extent of the issue. The way I aimed to illustrate my poster (the Ihi) was to try and show how women might feel being such a minority in the workforce – surrounded and powerless – by the sheer number of men around them. I’ve done this in both posters by showing a direct comparison between the number of women and Johns. On one hand, the first poster illustrates a city packed full of Johns, but doesn’t literally illustrate the fact their names are John – it’s meant to be more intimidating using repeated photography of men to let the viewer unpack the message themselves (Wehi). The 2nd is more direct, and I’ve used scale to show the powerful size of men in relation to the scaled down ‘Kate’ as a tie clip. I’ve also repeated the “John” as the silhouette for the tie, teasing that the industry is built from, and made for men – a common theme across both posters. – 193 words
